"Can I Eat…" FAQ
Quick answers to the food questions people ask most about the 17 Day Diet.
Can you drink coffee on the 17 Day Diet?
Yes. Black coffee is allowed on all three cycles (Accelerate, Activate, Achieve). Keep it to 1–2 cups per day, skip the sugar, and use unsweetened almond milk or a splash of skim milk instead of cream. Decaf and unsweetened green tea are encouraged.
Can you eat popcorn on the 17 Day Diet?
Not on Cycle 1. Popcorn is a natural starch and is introduced in Cycle 2 (Activate) in small portions — air-popped, no butter. On Cycle 3 (Achieve) you can enjoy it more freely as part of your daily carb allowance.
Can you eat bread on the 17 Day Diet?
Bread is not allowed on Cycle 1. Whole-grain bread (Ezekiel, sprouted grain, true 100% whole wheat) is reintroduced in Cycle 2, limited to 1–2 servings on alternating days. Cycle 3 lets you eat it daily in moderation.
Can you eat fruit on the 17 Day Diet?
Yes — but only low-sugar fruits (berries, apples, grapefruit, oranges, pears, plums, peaches) and only before 2pm. This rule holds across all three cycles. Bananas, mango, pineapple and dried fruit are avoided on Cycle 1.
Can you eat eggs on the 17 Day Diet?
Yes. Eggs are a core Cycle 1 protein. Up to 2 whole eggs per day, plus unlimited egg whites. Poached, boiled or scrambled with cooking spray — skip the butter and cheese on Cycle 1.
Can you drink alcohol on the 17 Day Diet?
No alcohol on Cycle 1 or Cycle 2. Cycle 3 allows 1–2 servings per day of dry wine, light beer or a clear spirit with a zero-calorie mixer — but it counts toward your daily carb allowance.
Can you eat cheese on the 17 Day Diet?
Low-fat cheese (mozzarella, feta, part-skim ricotta, cottage cheese) is allowed in small amounts starting Cycle 1. Full-fat cheeses come back on Cycle 3 in moderation.
Can you eat potatoes on the 17 Day Diet?
No white potatoes on Cycle 1. Sweet potatoes are reintroduced on Cycle 2 (Activate). White potatoes are allowed in moderation on Cycle 3.
Can you eat rice or pasta on the 17 Day Diet?
Not on Cycle 1. Brown rice, quinoa and whole-grain pasta are reintroduced on Cycle 2 on alternating days. Cycle 3 allows daily servings within your carb target.
Can you have sugar or sweeteners on the 17 Day Diet?
Added sugar is avoided across all cycles. Stevia, monk fruit and small amounts of Truvia are the preferred sweeteners. Skip artificial sweeteners like sucralose and aspartame when you can.
